I recently recorded on Kenna Burima's upcoming full-length, a moody soul misadventure slinging du-wop, virtuosic piano, and dystopian rock. Some of you may know Kenna as the mastermind behind the End of The World Music Festival, but I know her as my bandmate in Woodpigeon, and frequent collaborator; Notably, she sang backup vocals on FOONYAP and The Roar.
I spent a day at Arch Audio with her, bassist Simon Fisk, and engineer/producer Lorrie Matheson. Simon plays the basseto, a three-stringed cross between a cello and a bass, and we recorded string parts together. With Kenna's direction and Lorrie's input, Simon and I improvised off-kilter orchestral skirmishes and tender heartstrings.
I look forward to playing for the album's release. No date has yet been set, but watch for a sweaty, experimental rock cabaret in the next year or so!
